Since its inception, the Red Shoe Drop has become so famous that it’s often featured on national and international New Year’s Eve television programs including CNN.   • Guy Harvey, Ph.D., world-renowned artist, scientist, conservationist and entrepreneur will host two separate events at Papa’s Pilar Rum Distillery's Hemingway Social Club at 201 Simonton Street to celebrate the launch of his new book: “10,000 Chicken Sandwiches – The Story of my Fishing Family, Jamaica 1956-1986.” A portion of proceeds from sales of the new book, and all Guy Harvey merchandise, benefit ocean research, education and conservation initiatives through the Guy Harvey Foundation. The first event is the "Lecture and Libations" fundraising brunch from 10 a.m. to noon. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. Then, there is a book signing that is free and open to the public from 2 to 5 p.m. at the same location, where Dr. Harvey will be available for meet-and-greets, photo ops, and book and merchandise signings.

  • Coral Restoration Foundation's Coralpalooza™ Dive Day & Festival combines activities in the Florida Keys and community activities happening around the world. On Saturday, June 10th, an armada of dive boats leave from the Upper Keys and Key West filled with citizen science volunteer divers on coral restoration out-planting dives. All dive boat spaces are filled, but you can register for advance notification of next year's dives. On land, the Coralpalooza Festival brings fun for the whole family in both Islamorada and Key West. In Islamorada festivities take place at Dockside Raw Bar & Grill, 90311 Old Highway, from 11a.m. to 3 p.m., including live music, food and drinks, kayak rentals, coral trivia contest with Captain Coral, a "paint-along" party and corn hole contest. In Key West festivities take place at Margaritaville Beach House, 2001 South Roosevelt Blvd, Key West Fromm 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fun includes a pool party, food and drinks, lawn games, virtual reality coral restoration dive experiences, and a Smathers Beach clean up.

A rooftop sunset reception is set for 6:30 p.m., while the dinner is to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the property’s spacious Boat Barn. She will dive into the ecology of the strange and beautiful sponges that live on our Florida Keys reefs and share the preliminary results of her work on how nutrients affect these animals. Learn how these important filter feeders can be restored on reefs that have been damaged by storms. The free event kicks off with a social from 6:15-7 p.m., followed by the presentation from 7 to 8 p.m., at the REEF campus, 98300 Overseas Highway (median).

Cash prizes are awarded for the heaviest catches of each including a first-place prize of 5 thousand dollars for the heaviest mahi-mahi. A "super prize" of either $20 thousand or a new Toyota Corolla is to be awarded to the angler who catches the heaviest dolphin fish of 50 pounds or over. Captains and anglers can choose to fish either Saturday or Sunday, but not both. All proceeds benefit disabled and needy veterans of Monroe County. The opening captains meeting and final awards banquet will be held at VFW Post 3911, 2200 N. Roosevelt Blvd.

  • Monroe County continues its bicentennial celebrations with a free patriotic picnic and fireworks show to celebrate Monroe County's founding 200 years ago. The event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at Rowell’s Waterfront Park, mile marker 104.5 Overseas Hwy. bayside. The evening is to feature live music by the U.S. Navy Rock Band and the Mangrove Swamp Band, traditional picnic fare and mini-cupcakes, family-fun activities and entertainment options, and a spirited fireworks finale. Beer and wine will be available for purchase from the American Legion and other vendors will be available. Free parking and a shuttle will be available at Key Largo School, 104801 Overseas Hwy oceanside. There will be no parking onsite at Rowell's Park.

He was left in complete darkness and cut from his lifeline for 40 minutes while his rescuers raced to find and retrieve him. Chris' miraculous survival has baffled experts for years. Join the History of Diving Museum and UK-based Chris Lemons virtually as he takes us through the fascinating and dangerous world of saturation diving, as well as recounting his death-defying experience.   • This Key West charity fishing tournament benefits FAIR (Fair Insurance Rates in Monroe) and is based at the Perry Hotel & Marina, 7005 Shrimp Road. Eligible species including sailfish (catch/photo/release) and dolphin fish, blackfin tuna or kingfish, 15 pounds or higher, verified at a live weigh-in. Captains meeting is June 30 at the Perry, with fishing on July 1. Prizes are to be awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place boats with the highest points; biggest dolphin, kingfish and tuna; top angler and top woman angler.
