  • An opening reception will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, from 1–4 p.m. at the Key Largo Library, 101485 Overseas Hwy. The public is invited, refreshments will be served, and there is ample free parking. This Upper Keys Arts Council Member's Show at Key Largo Library supports the Art in Public Buildings program which offers an alternate space for artists to display their work. The exhibition will remain on display through January 29, 2020.

  • Invasive lionfish have made a big impact on Western Atlantic coral reefs. Dr. Alli Candelmo, Invasive Species Program Manager at Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF), will discuss programs that several organizations have employed to reduce the effect of lionfish. Current and future research to understand and manage this species will also be covered. Informative lectures are held at the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park visitor center and aquarium, mile marker 102.5 oceanside, from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. Park gates open at 7 p.m. for all lectures. There is no charge to enter the park to attend lectures. Visitors are urged to arrive on time to assure seating in the auditorium.

  • From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m, enjoy a native plant giveaway, plant identification, informative talks about insects in Keys gardens and their benefits, stroll nature trails and two butterfly garden tours, children's activities, and more. Event admission is free with park entry fee. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is located at mile marker 102.5 oceanside.
