  • The annual Judged Art Show featuring works by members of the Art Guild of the Purple Isles is to be on display at Florida Keys History & Discovery Center. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The center is located at mile marker 82 oceanside on the property of the Islander Resort.

The exhibit showcases art from across the Florida Keys, including works from local schools and members of the Art Guild of the Purple Isles. Each piece focuses on a theme of coral conservation, with educational interpretation provided by local coral conservation groups.

  • Gear up for a night of Southern charm and elegance as Habitat for Humanity of the Upper Keys proudly presents its 21st annual cocktail party with a Kentucky Derby theme. Guests are encouraged to don their most dashing Derby attire. For ladies, that includes those fabulous hats and fascinators, and for gentlemen, seersucker and bow ties. Prizes will be awarded for the best ladies’ hat or fascinator, best gentlemen’s bowtie, and best-coordinated couple, so come ready to showcase your Derby fashion flair. The event includes Southern culinary delights, live music, live and silent auctions and gaming tables. 5:30 p.m. for VIP guests; 6:30 for general admission at Cheeca Lodge and Spa, mile marker 82 oceanside.

  • Parents, call ahead to reserve space for your child or children to participate in the Florida Keys Fishing Guides Association's Kids Fishing Expo. All boys and girls age 13 and under are welcome to participate, but must be accompanied by an adult. Kids can learn how to spin and fly cast, throw a cast net, tie flies and tie knots. Age division competitions in spin casting and fly casting include ages 13 to16; 10 to 12; 6 to 9 and age 5 and under. Kids can compete for prizes including fishing charters, fishing gear and trophies. Free admission and free hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. Call or text Capt.
