LOWER KEYS TO HOST OKTOBERFEST OCT. 6

BIG PINE KEY, Florida Keys — The mention of Florida Keys cuisine generally brings to mind conch chowder and Key lime pie — not bratwurst and German potato salad. Keys visitors and residents will have a chance to enjoy those and many other German delicacies, however, during the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce’s Oktoberfest. The one-day German-style celebration is to take place 2–8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, at Summerland Cove on East Shore Drive on Summerland Key (off U.S. 1 between mile markers 25 and 26).

The family-oriented event is to feature arts and crafts booths displaying wares by local artisans, a beer garden offering special Oktoberfest beer, wine and soft drinks and food booths serving authentic German dishes. Children can enjoy a variety of games including a Frisbee-throwing contest.

Bavarian-style music is to be provided by the Bob Houston Orchestra, and local radio station WPIK 102.5 FM will be broadcasting live throughout the event and offering giveaways.

Admission and parking for Oktoberfest in the Lower Keys are free. For more information or to reserve a vendor space, call the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce at (305) 872-2411.
