ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Visitors and residents in the Upper Florida Keys can head outdoors to enjoy live music, art, food and fun at the 33rd annual Island Fest. The weekend-long springtime event takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6, at Founders Park, at mile marker 87 bayside in Islamorada.

The two-day event includes the juried Plantation Yacht Harbor Arts and Crafts Show, sand sculpture competition, the “What Floats Your Boat” homemade boat race, live music, classic cars, the popular Smoked Fish Dip Contest and fabulous food throughout the weekend.

The arts and crafts show will feature dozens of talented artisans showcasing a diverse collection of paintings, sculptures, jewelry, fine crafts, and more. On Saturday, independent judges will select the Best of Show Artist and Most Creative Artisan with awards presented on Sunday afternoon.

In addition to admiring the creations on display, attendees can purchase works that vary in price range and style. This year’s Island Fest poster artist is Jane Wood, whose brightly colored creation “Out to Sea” captures the essence of Islamorada with a radiant sun, shimmering waters, and tropical scenery. The artwork’s bold hues and swirling movement evoke the beauty and energy of the Florida Keys. The commemorative poster will be available for purchase at the Islamorada Chamber of Commerce booth No. 1, with Jane Wood on hand to sign copies.

Popular musical acts appealing to lovers of reggae, beach tunes, blues, rock and other genres are scheduled to perform throughout the weekend. Miami’s Josh Rowland and the Pit Bull of Blues Band are to perform from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday while local artist Pasta Pantaleo paints on stage to the rhythm of the blues.

Back this year, starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday, is the crowd-favorite Smoked Fish Dip Contest where participants will compete for the title of Best Smoked Fish Dip. Attendees can enjoy samples and purchase 4-ounce servings of these signature Florida flavors. The contest takes place on the beach where festivalgoers can also enjoy live music, dancing, boat races, sandcastle building, and more. A Judge’s Choice winner will be selected by a panel of fish dip-loving judges.

This year, diverse food trucks will serve up everything from fresh seafood to barbeque, brick oven pizza, grilled chicken wings, Mediterranean and Mexican dishes and more tasty treats throughout the weekend.

Kids can participate in the “What Floaties Your Boat” blow-up float race on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., followed by the wacky “What Floats Your Boat” race for adults at 1 p.m., where entrants bring unique, homemade watercraft creations in hopes they’ll float — and make it to the finish line. Winners will take home coveted rubber duckie trophies.

Kids also can paint a life-sized dolphin statue, compete in a hula hoop contest and build sand sculptures. Teams can compete Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the “Octopus and Jellyfish Jubilee” sand sculpture contest at the Founders Park beach.

The All-American Road Vintage Cruisers Car Show will showcase a stunning lineup of antique cars, classic trucks, motorcycles, and one-of-a-kind custom builds. The weekend show will be prominently visible from the Florida Keys Overseas Highway, an officially designated All-American Road, inviting passersby with a passion for unique vehicles to stop and enjoy the display.

Admission to Island Fest is free and on-site parking is available for a $10 donation. Organizers suggest attendees bring lawn chairs and blankets to maximize the enjoyment of a full day’s activities. Events take place rain or shine.
