Southernmost Half Marathon and 10k to Challenge Runners in Key West
KEY WEST, Fla. — Sunrise views of the Atlantic Ocean, picturesque landmarks and a unique endurance challenge are to lure athletes to the Run Conch Republic/Southernmost Half Marathon & 10k this fall in Key West.
Set for Sunday, Oct. 13, the event offers participants the chance to strive for speed and personal bests in a 13.1-mile half marathon and 6.2-mile 10k held in the continental United States’ southernmost island city.
The half marathon is to begin at 7 a.m. and the 10k at 7:10 a.m. The start and finish lines for both races are at the oceanfront Higgs Beach, 1000 Atlantic Blvd.
Runners in the half marathon are to follow a flat, fast course that includes parts of Key West’s historic Old Town, Atlantic Ocean shoreline and landmarks including the famed Southernmost Point marker. Contenders in the 10k are to race primarily beside the ocean.
Water stations are to be located at regular intervals along both courses.
Awards await the top three male and female overall finishers and top three male and female finishers in age categories ranging from youth to 80 and older. All participants that complete the course are to receive a medal commemorating their achievement.
Awards ceremonies are scheduled at 8:30 a.m. for competitors in the 10k and at 9:30 a.m. for those in the half marathon.
Before race day, runners can pick up their packets at Fit2Run, 211 Duval St., Unit B, at a time to be determined. An early packet pickup is also planned at a race hotel. Pickup information and times are to be posted at runconchrepublic.com during race week.
Race-day packet pickup is available starting at 5:30 a.m. at the site.
Participants are encouraged to register early since entry fees increase as the race date nears. The event is presented by Integrity Multisport.
