‘Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!’ Combines Learning on the Water With Screamin’ Reels Tournament May 17-19

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — “Ladies, Let's Go Fishing!” provides female anglers an on-the-water weekend of education combined with the Screamin’ Reels tournament. The fun is to take place Friday through Sunday, May 17-19, in the Florida Keys' sport fishing capital of Islamorada.

All participants are invited to put responsible angling into practice in the non-intimidating offshore and inshore competition.

A popular girls’ getaway for 20-plus years, the educational weekend hosted by the Ladies Let’s Go Fishing Foundation kicks off Friday with a presentation on offshore fishing and conservation, plus a 6:30-8 p.m. meet and greet at the Tavernier Elks Club, mile marker 92 bayside.

Saturday and Sunday are fishing days in the friendly angling competition. Designed with easy rules for novices, the event also is challenging for those with experience who seek to enhance their existing skills.

Charter boats depart from Islamorada’s Whale Harbor Marina, mile marker 83.4, and other locations. Anglers also can fish from their own boats.

Prizes such as rods and reels or distinctive art prints are to be awarded in inshore and offshore categories including Top Offshore and Inshore fish releases, wild card prizes and more.

While the event was conceived for women, men and teens can participate alongside their angling companions.

Bookings for charter guides and boats fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged. Spaces remain available, priced at an online rate of $95 per adult and $55 per teenager ages 13 and up. Charter fishing is additional.

A second “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!” event in Islamorada is slated for Oct. 18-20. It is to include a full-day seminar, two parties and two days of fishing in the casual Fishing Fever tournament.
