Taste of Key West to Offer Tempting Treats March 25 at Truman Waterfront
KEY WEST, Fla. — People eager to savor the flavors of the multifaceted Florida Keys can do so at the 29th annual Taste of Key West, a tempting tasting celebration set for 6 p.m. Monday, March 25.
The eclectic open-air event takes place at Truman Waterfront Park, overlooking Key West Harbor at the end of Southard Street. It traditionally showcases indulgent edibles such as tropical and Caribbean-influenced cuisine, fresh-off-the-boat local seafood, vegetarian dishes and European fare.
Chefs from several dozen local restaurants and catering companies typically participate, donating their time and talent to create offerings that include gourmet delights, casual tidbits and decadent desserts. Some craft their cuisine to celebrate the Florida Keys’ seafaring heritage, subtropical climate and multicultural atmosphere.
Attendees can complement the delicacies with their choice of wines from around the globe provided by Republic National Distributing Company, and also a wide selection of beers.
As well as presenting flavors and flair, the culinary celebration is a community fundraiser with the theme of “Every Helping Helps. Every Serving Serves.” It benefits the Florida Keys’ AH Monroe that focuses on accessible healthcare and assistance for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Gates open at 6 p.m. Biking or walking to the event is suggested, though ample parking is available at Truman Waterfront Park.
General admission to Taste of Key West is free. To enjoy the featured food and libations, attendees can purchase a plate, commemorative wine glass or pint beer glass and tickets to be exchanged for their choice of samples. “Tastes” generally “cost” four to six tickets each.
Other options include an inclusive “2 for Taste” package for two people. Also available is a VIP pass that includes unlimited food and wine samplings, insights from a wine sommelier, upscale butler-passed hors d’oeuvres and exclusive table seating in the event’s VIP tent.
