Popular Ladies' 'No-Yelling School of Fishing' Set for Nov. 13-15 in Islamorada

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Female anglers should mark their calendars for Friday through Sunday, Nov. 13-15, to attend the "Ladies, Let's Go Fishing!" girls' getaway, an award-winning weekend university held in the Florida Keys' sport fishing capital of Islamorada.

Over the last two decades, more than 8,000 graduates have learned to become anglers or polish their angling skills as well as practice responsible angling and apply learned fishing skills in offshore, bottom, inshore and fly fishing.

Participants learn techniques from prominent fishing captains based in the Keys.

The seminar kicks off Friday, Nov. 13, with a 6:30-8:30 p.m. meet-and-greet networking social at Tavernier's BPOE Elks Lodge at mile marker (MM) 92 bayside. Participants and guests can enjoy a fundraising raffle, silent auction and the Master Chef Potluck Appetizer Contest.

Saturday's activities begin at 8:30 a.m. with classroom presentations by professional local guides on fishing basics, conservation, release techniques and more. After lunch, hands-on activities include knot tying, bait rigging, spin and net casting, boat and trailer handling, stand-up fish fighting techniques, gaffing, removing hooks and filleting the catch.

A cocktail party is to be held 6-8 p.m. at Seaside Glassworks, MM 82 bayside.

Sunday morning, lady anglers can opt for an additional inshore or offshore fishing adventure out of Whale Harbor Marina, MM 83.5 oceanside. Anglers can fish from a party/drift boat, sport-fishing vessel or inshore flats boat.

"Our popular Keys University offers a unique vacation getaway where women can learn, network and enjoy the fabulous Florida Keys and its remarkable fishing," said Betty Bauman, LLGF founder.

Classes fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged. Early entry fee is $125 per person and the regular/late entry fee is $145. A new VIP registration of $180 entitles participants to premium reserved seating, socials and meals as well as future rebates and savings on souvenirs.

Also new for 2015 is a Ladies' Choice option for women to bring a male guest or invite teens age 13 and up to join in the learning weekend. There is a reduced registration fee for women with teens.

The fee includes a classroom book and instruction, the use of equipment, a welcome reception, lunch, goody bags, Saturday party and more. A Friday bonus fishing day is offered for an additional fee. All Keys University rates can be found at ladiesletsgofishing.com.

Specially priced weekend accommodations also are available.
