Humphrey Bogart Film Festival Returns to Key Largo 12-16 October

Film critic Leonard Maltin called Humphrey Bogart's Casablanca "the best Hollywood movie of all time." Fans of Bogart can celebrate his iconic work at the Humphrey Bogart Film Festival which returns to Key Largo in the Florida Keys from 12-16 October. The festival, now in its fourth year, pays tribute to Bogart's life and 50 year film career. The actor, who appeared in more than 80 movies, famously brought Hollywood to the Florida Keys with his actress wife Lauren Bacall when they teamed up to star in Key Largo in 1948.

Hosted by Bogart and Bacall's son, Stephen Bogart, the festival showcases classic movies including The Big Sleep and The African Queen just as they were meant to be seen: on the big screen. Shown in traditional movie theatres and also outside under the stars beside the Gulf of Mexico, film fans can watch Key Largo in Key Largo, next to the waters plied by Bogie in the classic adventure.

During the festival, more than 40 film showings will be screened over five days, alongside special events including a cocktail reception with Bogart's Gin and informative roundtable discussions. Special guests will include "the czar of noir," film historian and novelist Eddie Muller. A live radio play performance of The Maltese Fiction, which marks its 75th anniversary in 2016, is scheduled for Thursday 13 October at noon.

In between catching a movie or attending an event, Bogart aficionados can take a cruise on the fully restored African Queen, the original boat from John Huston's 1951 film of the same name that starred Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. The venerable vessel is docked at the Holiday Inn Key Largo, at mile marker 100.

All-access and single-event passes can be purchased at bogartfilmfestival.com. Individual film screenings cost $10 (£7.50), while festival passes are priced from $100 (£75).

Experience the Humphrey Bogart Film Festival: Hayes and Jarvis (01293 762 456, hayesandjarvis.co.uk) has seven nights in the Florida Keys from £1,069 per person, including five nights in Key Largo and two nights in Key West. Departing on 11 October 2016, the price also includes return international flights from London Heathrow to Miami and car hire for the duration, based on two adults travelling and sharing room only accommodation.
