Florida Keys Celtic Festival to Star Musical Masters Jan. 8-10
MARATHON, Florida Keys — Some of America's most celebrated Celtic musical masters are to be featured at the third annual Florida Keys Celtic Festival set for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 9-10, 2016.
A return of the Scottish band Albannach headlines a diverse musical lineup for the family-friendly event. Other musical stars include international super group Rathkeltair, The Screaming Orphans, West of Galway and Marcille Wallis & Friends in a live acoustic performance.
A "Kilts in The Keys" celebration kicks off the weekend, featuring Irish music by West of Galway from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Marathon Grill and Ale House located at mile marker (MM) 53.
The festivities continue at Marathon Community Park, MM 49, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan 10.
Other highlights of the weekend event include the bagpipes and drums of Police Pipe and Drum of Florida, Highland Athletics, a sanctioned women's competition and a men's demonstration, and the Florida State Haggis Hurling Championship. All events are open for public viewing.
Celtic merchandise, food and beverage vendors and children's activities round out the weekend's festivities.
Single-day tickets are available for Saturday or Sunday for $12 per person, and two-day admission tickets are $20 per adult. Children age 12 and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
Parking at the event is free. Specially priced Marathon accommodations also are available.
