Symphony to Present Master Pianist Christopher Taylor in Key West Jan. 30
KEY WEST, Florida — The South Florida Symphony is to showcase the artistry of pianist Christopher Taylor Thursday, Jan. 30, in a Key West concert titled "Double Speak and Hidden Meanings." The performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Williams Theatre, 5901 College Road on the Florida Keys Community College campus.
The soloist and symphony are to perform Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3. The musical program also includes Franz Liszt's Symphonic Poem No. 10 "Hamlet" and Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10.
The South Florida Symphony, a unique gathering of professional symphonic musicians from around the United States, began as the Key West Symphony and is guided by nationally recognized conductor Sebrina Maria Alfonso. Complimenting the orchestra members' talents are soloists chosen to enhance each musical program.
Taylor is renowned for his brilliance and virtuosity as well as the cerebral yet tender intensity of his interpretations. He has appeared with leading orchestras including the Boston Pops, New York Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic, and at distinguished venues ranging from the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall to Chicago's Ravinia Festival. Recently he earned particular notice for his programming of Olivier Messiaen's "Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus."
Before the Jan. 30 concert, attendees can enjoy a 6:45 p.m. "symphony chat" with classical pianist and music historian Edward Pitts at the Tennessee Williams Theatre.
Tickets for the symphony's January Key West performance range from $25 to $75 per person, depending on seat location. The ticket price includes a post-concert reception where concert-goers can meet the conductor, orchestra members and featured soloist.

The symphony's 2013-14 Master Series season is to conclude with "A Summons to Life," set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, with pianist Jeffrey Biegel.
