Lane Closure Expected for Key Largo’s Jewfish Creek Bridge Saturday Morning

KEY LARGO, Florida Keys – Jewfish Creek Bridge, one of 43 spans that help comprise the Florida Keys Overseas Highway, is to partially close to vehicular traffic early Saturday morning (Nov. 13) for an annual footrace over the area’s newly reconstructed 1.5-mile stretch of bridge that crosses over the area known as Florida’s Gateway to the Keys.

The southbound lane of US1 is to remain open while the northbound lane is to be closed and traffic diverted to Card Sound Road, beginning at 6:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The event's field of more than 800 runners is filling fast, including enthusiasts from more than 25 U.S. states and four different countries, according to organizer Candace Basilius. Runners can still sign up for the race during a Health Expo on Friday, Nov. 12, at the Holiday Inn, located at mile marker 100.

Lane closure of the northbound lane is to begin at 6:30 a.m. and resume normal traffic flow at 10:30 a.m.
