Mother’s Day Dolphin Tournament to Benefit Habitat for Humanity

MARATHON, Florida Keys — Avid family anglers can treat mom to a fun fishing competition that supports a worthy cause May 10-11, during the 18th annual Mother’s Day Dolphin Tournament to benefit Habitat for Humanity of the Middle Keys.

A captains meeting is to be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 10, at Island Fish Co. Restaurant & Tiki Bar, 12648 Overseas Highway or mile marker 54 bayside in Marathon.

Fishing takes place Saturday, May 11, in the tournament known as a great event for first-time anglers. Lines-in is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. and lines-out at 3:30 p.m. A weigh-in is to follow from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at Curly’s Coffee and Marina, 11601 Overseas Highway or mile marker 53 oceanside. 

The tournament awards banquet and ceremony are set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Marathon Yacht Club, 825 33rd St. Gulf or mile marker 54.5 bayside. 

Cash prizes totaling $9,250 are to be awarded, with prizes for first, second and third place in all four divisions: junior, ladies, weekend warrior and pro. 

Raffles and giveaways also are to be featured. The challenge supports Habitat for Humanity of the Middle Keys’ work dedicated to the development of safe, decent and affordable homes.

Tournament registration is open through May 10 at the captains meeting. Registration fees are $75 for junior anglers, $100 for lady anglers and $175 for both weekend warrior and pro anglers.
