Welcome the Holiday Season with Art, Crafts and Music in the Lower Keys

Family Fun
This Family Fun story spotlights a family-focused attraction, event or place that enriches the Florida Keys for visitors of all ages

BIG PINE KEY, Florida Keys — Santa might wear shorts in the subtropical Lower Florida Keys, and tiny indigenous Key deer might prevail instead of the expected holiday reindeer. Even so, visitors can welcome the festive season and celebrate the creative arts at the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce’s annual Island Art Festival.

The 2021 event is to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, on the grounds of the chamber’s visitor center at mile marker 31 oceanside on Big Pine Key. A seasonal tradition in the region, the event blends a heaping helping of holiday spirit with the area’s balmy temperatures and breezes.

The family-friendly outdoor festival typically includes as many as 50 booths featuring handcrafted holiday items and creations by Keys artists and artisans. The event gives attendees an opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind gifts, artwork and crafts while enjoying the Lower Keys’ tranquil natural atmosphere.

As an additional attraction, some creative spirits offer demonstrations of their artistic techniques or share the secrets behind their craftsmanship.

While exploring the wares for sale, visitors also can enjoy live music by favorite local entertainers, relax in the shaded picnic area on the grounds, and savor food and beverages offered by on-site vendors.

Admission and parking for the festival are free, but attendees are asked not to bring picnic baskets or coolers.
