Key West’s Womenfest to Feature Entertainment and Adventure Sept. 1-5

KEY WEST, Florida Keys — Women are expected to flock to Key West Wednesday through Sunday, Sept. 1-5, for the annual Womenfest celebration in the island city known for its all-welcoming diversity. 

The popular festival for lesbians and their friends is designed to allow singles, couples and groups of women to experience the atmosphere of openness and acceptance that has made Key West an internationally acclaimed lesbian and gay vacation destination.

“There is  something for everyone, from our very first beach bash and cornhole tournament to snorkel and sunset sails, pool and dance parties, the very popular drag brunch and daily activities that Key West has to offer year-round,” said Fritzie Estimond, events coordinator for the Key West Business Guild, which presents Womenfest.  

The schedule begins with a welcome party featuring the all-female band Sister Funk set for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Alexander’s Guesthouse, 1118 Fleming St. 

Womenfest’s entertainment highlights are to include the inaugural Ultimate Beach Bash and Cornhole Tournament on Higgs Beach, located at 1000 Atlantic Blvd., and a women-only sunset sail aboard the 75-foot SV Argo Navis luxury catamaran.

In addition, the schedule includes a sandbar snorkel trip on the vessel Blu Q, clothing-optional pool and dance parties, a drag competition and a flag football match for women interested in testing their sporting skills. 

After dark during Womenfest, attendees can dance the night away at Key West’s leading LGBTQ clubs and bars, enjoying events that include dance parties with DJs Mira and Citizen Jane. 

Sunday, Sept. 5, revelers can enjoy a gala drag brunch featuring special guest appearances at Mangoes, 700 Duval St., followed by the time-honored Key West Tea Dance at La Te Da, 1125 Duval St. 

The festivities are to conclude with the “Final Dance” party at Sidebar, 504 Angela St.
