Teams Can Still Join Conch Scramble Charity Golf Tournament

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Floating greens, golf boats and biodegradable fish food balls highlight the annual “par-tee” on the water during the popular Conch Scramble charity golf tournament Saturday, Sept. 29, in Islamorada.

Fans of golf and boating have a “hole” lot of fun honing their swings and raising money for charity one shot at a time. Up to 50 teams can enter this one-of-a-kind golf experience. Five-person teams — four golfers and a designated boat driver “caddy” — can enter for $500. Registration remains open online.

Teams make stops at eight different Islamorada waterfront venues and come ashore to tee off. Each player has two shots at the floating holes using biodegradable golf balls that dissolve into fish food after 90 hours in the water.

A kick-off party is scheduled 6-10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at a to-be-determined Islamorada location. A silent auction and a 50/50 cash raffle also are planned. Non-golfers wanting to attend the festivities can purchase kick-off party tickets for $35 each.

Teams are to meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Islamorada Fish Company, mile marker (MM) 81.5 bayside, for coffee, breakfast, hole location assignments and a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

An awards ceremony is set for 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Oceanview Inn & Sports Pub, MM 84.5. Trophies await the top three teams with the best scores, while additional honors recognize the best hole location, most team spirit and best costumes.

Proceeds from the golfing challenge help fund Keys charities.
