Feb. 8 Seminar to Feature Tips, Tricks for Successful Florida Keys Fishing

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys – How to fish floating objects including offshore weed lines, and angling secrets for success in the Florida Keys’ Hawk Channel, are just a few of the expert fishing tips to be discussed at a popular angling seminar set for Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Coral Shores Performing Arts Center, mile marker 89.9 oceanside in Islamorada.

The Salt Water Sportsman National Seminar Series is to be hosted by George Poveromo and Captain Mark Schmidt, with a faculty comprised of other Florida Keys angling experts.

“We’re going to help people crack the code for fishing floating debris including techniques aimed at catching mahi-mahi, tripletail, wahoo and other gamefish,” said Poveromo, host of "George Poveromo's World of Saltwater Fishing" on Discovery network. “We’re also going to reveal secrets for navigating and catching fish in the shallow waters of Hawk Channel, which runs along the Atlantic side of the Florida Keys.

"Our panel of experts are Florida Keys authorities on fishing the entire island chain’s inshore, nearshore and offshore waters,” Poveromo said. “Therefore, the information to be provided at the seminar is unparalleled for those seeking angling success throughout the Keys.”

Set to join Poveromo and Schmidt is a diversified group of South Florida and Keys professionals including Bruce Davis, Jimmy Gagliardini, Armani Garcia, Chris Hanson, Lee Lavery, Andrew Tipler, Diego Toiran, Mike Weinhofer, Alan Wenzel, Jim Willcox and David Wicker. Also on the faculty is Islamorada marine artist and recreational angler Pasta Pantaleo.

The $65 ticket price covers instruction, a 2025 course textbook, a one-year subscription or extension to Salt Water Sportsman magazine, one Roff's Ocean Fishing Forecast Analysis, boat care products, a Bass Pro Shops discount card and chances to win thousands of dollars' worth of door prizes, including a guided Florida Keys fishing trip with accommodations and a Mako Pro skiff.

An after-seminar reception is set for attendees beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday at World Wide Sportsman, MM 81.5 bayside in Islamorada.
