Upcoming Lane Closures for Road Improvement on 18-Mile Stretch
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has completed the first phase of periodic nighttime closures of the northbound lane of the 18-Mile Stretch for a year-long project to improve the roadway along US 1/Overseas Highway from the Jewfish Creek Bridge (Mile Marker 108) to the Miami-Dade County Line (MM 113) in Monroe County.
The northbound lane that was to be closed the night of Monday, Nov. 4, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., will now be open.
The next planned northbound nighttime lane closures are planned for Nov. 12 through Nov. 15 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
During the nightly northbound closures, traffic will be diverted to Card Sound Road and tolls will be suspended.
Florida Keys visitors and residents are advised to plan ahead for possible increases in travel time to catch late-night or early-morning flights at either Miami or Fort Lauderdale international airports.
Truck drivers are reminded that Monroe County has posted new weight restrictions on Card Sound Road on the approach to Mosquito Creek and Tubby's Creek bridges. Please plan ahead.
Work will be done in stages to minimize construction-related impacts. Keys visitors and residents should expect future 18-Mile Stretch lane closure announcements.
Drivers might experience delays traveling through the area. Please use caution when traveling through construction zones and follow all posted signage.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unexpected conditions.
