Ladies to Tackle Angling Skills During Keys Fishing University and Fishing Fever Tournament

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Female anglers can learn fishing skills, network and enjoy lighthearted tournament competition Friday through Sunday, Oct. 18-20, during the annual no-experience-necessary "Ladies, Let's Go Fishing!" Keys University and Fishing Fever Tournament in the Florida Keys’ sport-fishing capital of Islamorada.

The “No Yelling School of Fishing” offers classroom presentations and hands-on fishing skills practice, paired with the friendly Fishing Fever tournament that has both offshore and inshore fishing opportunities.

The seminar kicks off Friday, Oct. 18, with a 6:30-8:30 p.m. meet-and-greet networking social at the Elks Lodge at mile marker 92 bayside. Participants and guests can enjoy a fundraising raffle, silent auction and appetizers.

Saturday morning, indoor presentations begin at 9 a.m. with speakers including Captains Lee Lavery, Jeanne Towne and Rob Modys as well as LLGF founder Betty Bauman.

Setting the program apart from typical fishing classes are the hands-on fishing skills taught by fishing guides Saturday afternoon until 4:30 p.m. Skills to be covered include sustainable release techniques, knot tying, dehooking, bait rigging, spin casting and cast netting.

A cocktail party is to follow Saturday evening at Seaside Glassworks, mile marker 82 bayside.

Friday and Sunday, participants can opt to join the entry-level Fishing Fever Tournament for lighthearted inshore or offshore competition out of Whale Harbor Marina at mile marker 83.5 oceanside.

Anglers can fish from their own boats or choose to join a charter (additional charterboat fishing rates apply) on an offshore sport-fishing vessel, inshore flats boat or drift/party boat.

The weekend seminar and fishing charters fill quickly, so interested anglers should register early. Ladies may register a male guest or teens to include family members.
