Tripadvisor: Key Largo Named Top Trending Destination in the U.S.

Key Largo has been lauded by a Tripadvisor survey as the “top trending location” in the United States, according to a Tuesday announcement of the 2020 Best of the Best Destination Awards.

Every year the online travel company aggregates reviews, ratings and “saves” that travelers share from across the globe and uses that info to spotlight the very best.

“Trending destinations are those incredible spots that travelers love and that we saw the biggest spikes in top reviews and ratings,” said Carol Johnson, Florida’s Tripadvisor senior client partner.

In the award description of Key Largo, Tripadvisor’s editors wrote “Just a few minutes' drive but a world away from the mainland, Key Largo has been the setting of movies, the home to abundant wildlife and a favorite destination for scuba diving. Lush flora and lively fauna abound in the Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and Everglades National Park. Underwater, the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary teems with life while the American Crocodile thrives at Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge.”

Stacey Mitchell, director of the Keys tourism council, was delighted with the accolade.

“In the past few years Key Largo’s travel offerings have evolved with more upscale accommodations and sustainable activities,” Mitchell said. “As evidenced by Tripadvisor’s surveys, the traveling public has not only noticed, but is appreciative of Key Largo’s efforts.”

Moab, Utah, was second in the trending category while Anna Maria Island, Florida, was ranked third.
