Limited Spots Remain for Islamorada’s Half Marathon, 10k and Beach N’ Beer Mile

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — To the delight of distance runners and winter visitors who relish the Florida Keys’ warm climes, the annual Half Marathon, 10k & Beach N’ Beer Mile in Islamorada returns to its original December time slot, with the 2019 event slated for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7-8.

This year’s race is nearly sold out, according to organizers, but spaces do remain for runners of all ages and skill levels to register for the tropical road race — whether they’re bucket-list runners or newbies.

An optional preweekend meet–and–greet event Thursday, Dec. 6, features a sunset paddle with drinks and appetizers.

Friday, racers can enjoy a 6-8 p.m. welcome party hosted by the Florida Keys Brewing Company, located at 200 Morada Way.

From 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, packet pickup is open for the half-marathon and 10k events.

The popular and fun Beach N’ Beer Mile kicks off at noon from Robbie’s Marina, mile marker 77.5 bayside, in two waves of participants. Runners must consume four beers over a 1-mile course in Islamorada. Organizers said the best time to beat for this challenge is seven minutes.

Sunday’s main half-marathon and 10k events also are headquartered at Robbie’s Marina and take place from 7 a.m. to noon. A north, south, north-again course is to highlight some of Islamorada’s most scenic areas including the Indian Key Fill, Lower Matecumbe and Channel 2 Bridge.

Cash prizes are to be awarded the top three male and female half-marathon finishers, while other awards await the top three finishers in the 10k.

Until Nov. 30, the online registration fee is $110 per person for the half-marathon, $70 per person for the 10k and $35 per person for the Beer Mile. From Dec. 1 until race day, fees for the half-marathon and 10k increase to $120 and $75, respectively.
