Salt Water Sportsman Seminar to Return to Keys Jan. 19

ISLAMORADA,  Florida Keys -- A popular, daylong fishing seminar is to return to the Florida Keys Saturday, Jan. 19.

Hosted by veteran saltwater fishing journalist and broadcaster George Poveromo, the Salt Water Sportsman National Seminar Series is to kick off at 9 a.m. inside the Performing Arts Center of Coral Shores High School, mile marker 89.9 oceanside in Islamorada.

Poveromo hosts a fishing show on NBC Sports network and is a contributing editor for Salt Water Sportsman magazine. Set to serve as co-host is Mark Schmidt, a longtime Key West light-tackle guide.

Entering its 32nd year, the National Seminar Series is the nation’s longest-running educational course on recreational marine fishing tactics and techniques.

Islamorada is one of eight locations in the eastern half of the U.S. where seminars are being staged. They are geared to the how-tos and where-tos of catching saltwater fish within that region, either inshore, nearshore or offshore.

Teams of top local pros and nationally recognized saltwater angling authorities serve as faculty. Keys area captains slated to be part of the faculty include Jim Wilcox, Jimmy Gagliardini, Paul Ross, Andrew Tipler, Jen Copeland, Chris Hanson, Richard DeLizza, David Wicker and Alan Wenzel.

Admission is $55 per person and covers five hours of instruction, a course textbook, a year subscription or extension to Salt Water Sportsman magazine, and various boating and fishing product samples. The grand prize at the conclusion of the Islamorada seminar is a Florida Keys fishing trip. The Super Grand Prize, to be awarded two weeks after the conclusion of the 2019 seminar series, is a new 17-foot-long Mako Pro Skiff.

To pre-register, call 1-800-448-7360, or register on-line at nationalseminarseries.com.
