Island-Style Florida Keys Holiday Festival to Bring Cheer Dec. 7

Family Fun
This Family Fun story spotlights a family-focused attraction, event or place that enriches the Florida Keys for visitors of all ages

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Moms, dads and children can make snowballs in the Florida Keys’ subtropical breezes during Islamorada’s annual Florida Keys Holiday Festival. The seasonal fun is set for Friday, Dec. 7, at Islamorada’s Founders Park, mile marker 87 bayside.

Always a family favorite at the free-admission event, a 30-ton snow mountain is planned for 4-10 p.m. at the park’s beach area. The crowd-pleasing celebration centerpiece, a 35-foot-tall holiday tree with “magical” snow blowing from its branches, is to be lighted at 6 p.m.

The 14th annual holiday parade, themed “Holiday Magic and Wonder,” is scheduled at 7 p.m. featuring the Coral Shores Hurricanes pep band and decorated floats including one carrying jolly old Saint Nick.

Other attractions include musical and dance performances on an outdoor stage throughout the event, as well as contests to choose the “Little Miss Sugar Plum Fairy” and “Mr. Gingerbread Man.”

The holiday bazaar is to be chock full of gift items, baked goods and gourmet baskets. The much-anticipated holiday ornament silent auction is to feature more than 50 one-of-a-kind, hand-painted pieces created and donated by local artists.

Adults can sample hot buttered rum or sip fine wines at the festival-favorite Vino Village, and Santa’s Sweet Shoppe is to offer tempting coffees, desserts and treats.

Well-behaved four-legged mutts can strut their stuff in the Santa Paws Pet Parade and vie for prizes for best doggone holiday attire or best trick. Entry is free.

On-site parking is to be available for a $5 donation.
