Key Largo family activities and entertainment for children

Key Largo is uniquely situated next to Everglades National Park in one direction and the continental United States' only living coral barrier reef in the other. A trip to the Everglades by eco-tour or fishing charter will reveal a stunning array of wildlife that your children will never forget. Meanwhile, dive-snorkel operators are ready to show you our reef, which is home to tropical fish, sea turtles and other wildlife. And right in Key Largo, you will find plenty of attractions to explore.

You might also consider taking a day trip by car to the Flamingo outpost in Everglades National Park. The route is punctuated by walking trails and observation decks that offer stunning views of the famous "River of Grass." Flamingo is also a great place to see alligators, crocodiles and birds.

Between excursions, your children might also enjoy stopping at the following parks and beaches:

Water Park at Jacob's Aquatics Center
320 Laguana Avenue (Turn off U.S. 1 at Mile Marker 99.6, Oceanside.)
Your children can splash for hours at this beautiful park for less than it would cost to take them to a movie. A mockup of a Pirate Ship looms in the center of a shallow, splash pool that's perfect for toddlers. Older kids will also enjoy swimming in an adjacent pool. Polite and astute lifeguards are on hand.

Harry Harris Park and Beach
Beach Road (Turn off U.S. 1 at Burton Drive, Mile Marker 92.5, Oceanside.)
This gorgeous, ocean-front park has been updated with a new toddler playground. You can watch your kids from a convenient, covered picnic area. Entry to the park is free Monday-Friday. On weekends, it’s free for kids under 12 with a small charge for others.

Old Settler's Park
This small, community park is free and offers swings and slides.

Friendship Park
This free community park offers a ball field, playground and tennis courts.

Key Largo Community Park
Laguana Avenue (Turn off U.S. 1 at Mile Marker 99.6, Oceanside.)
This huge park has it all: playground, ball fields, tennis courts, volleyball court, and more. It is co-located with the Jacobs Aquatics Center pool facility.
