This trip is socially distanced and masks are mandatory. The event is capped at 10 people so please book early and in advance. From 7-9 p.m., $50 per person.

  • Military, fire rescue, police and medical personnel are honored as part of the annual Heroes Salute Tribute Weekend at Hawks Cay Resort, Villas and Marina, 61 Hawks Cay Blvd. on Duck Key. Highlights of the “heroes in action” Labor Day weekend event, presented in partnership with Firehouse Subs restaurant franchise, include a Friday family fun night with food, games and a movie under the stars, a virtual 5k race and Sunday heroes tributes with a barbecue and live music outdoors. The event is free and open to the public. Social distancing protocols are to be observed for all weekend events.

  • Join Keys History & Discovery Center Curator Brad Bertelli and special guest Willie Drye at 6 p.m. for a virtual, Q & A happy hour about all things Keys history. Award-winning author and journalist Willie Drye's works include Storm of the Century: The Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 and For Sale-American Paradise: How Our Nation Was Sold An Impossible Dream In Florida. Free program with limited capacity, offered via Zoom. Advance registration required and seats are limited, with priority access given to active Keys History & Discovery Center members. Each registrant will receive a confirmation email with a link to join the session when their virtual seat is assigned.

  • Four-person teams can sign up to compete! The derby competition will be designed to allow teams and coordinators to maintain safe social distance while still encouraging the removal of lionfish from our reefs! NEW this year, are two divisions: Apex Predators and Reef Defenders. Thursday a virtual, mandatory Captain's Meeting is set for the team captains. Teams may collect lionfish Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11-12. All lionfish must be turned into the scoring station by 10AM Sunday. All lionfish must be turned into the drop off station at REEF Campus (Key Largo) or Mote Laboratory (Summerland Key). Registration and complete derby information online.

  • The lecture series for the Fall season kicks off virtually, from 6-7 p.m., with Everette Albury and Charles Pellicier. Both were born in 1928 in the remote Tavernier area which included a gas station, icehouse and sundry store, yet no formal schoolhouse. Join Everette and Charles as they regale attendees with their experiences growing up in what is now considered Historic Tavernier, the only historically-designated area in Monroe County outside of Key West. They will share stories of surviving hurricanes, living among mosquitos and other facets of daily life in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Their conversation with accompanying photos will be led by Erin Muir, a sixth generation Tavernier resident, who is Charles’ granddaughter and Everette’s cousin. Erin is a manager with Keys History & Discovery Center.  Lectures are free for members and $5 for non-members. Advance registration is required.

  • Join the flock and explore the natural wonder of the annual migration inside the tropical forest along with Mark Hedden, writer, photographer and birding guide. For the 12th year, learn as you enjoy the wonders of the annual migration at one of the Lower Keys iconic bird and butterfly hotspots. The Garden is located at 5210 College Road on Stock Island. Open 8 a.m. to 4p.m. each day. Event features outdoor events, safe, social distance protocols are in effect. Masks required of attendees.

  • An Obie Award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone. THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES by Eve Ensler, introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnessed her best friend give birth, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it.” Performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening shows at 8:00 pm with a 3:00 pm matinee offered on Sunday, January 17. Tickets $25 pp.
