ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Corvette aficionados can find decades’ worth of examples of the authentic American sports car at the 16th annual Corvettes in Paradise show set for Saturday, Nov. 7, at Holiday Isle Resort, mile marker 84 oceanside in Islamorada.
Presented by the Florida Keys Corvette Club, the event is to feature Corvettes competing for awards in 20 different classes that are focused as much on cars’ muscle as their grace, style, beauty and nostalgia.
Stock classes are to include model years 1953-1962, 1963-1967, 1968-1982, 1984-1996, 1997-2004 and 2005-2010. In addition, two street classes (1953-1982 and 1984-2010) are to be shown. No trailers are allowed for the street classes.
Prizes await winners in five wash and show and three modified classes, along with custom, ZR1, special interest and Z06 classes. A nonjudged, display-only class also will be open.
David McLellan is scheduled to be a special guest at the show. McLellan was Corvette’s second chief engineer, serving from 1975 until his retirement in 1992.
Registration is set for 12-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, and 8-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Holiday Isle. Only the first 100 cars to be registered will be judged. Entrants are to be assigned parking spots on arrival.
Judging is to begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, with the awards presentation starting at 4:30 p.m. Due to space limitations, pre-registration is encouraged. The entry fee for judged classes is $35 prior to Oct. 23 and $40 from that date until the day of the show. Display-only class registration is $20.
In addition to the car show, attractions include a 50/50 drawing and raffle prizes. Partial proceeds are to benefit scholarships for Keys students who want to pursue an automotive education.
