Half Marathon, 10k and Beach N’ Beer Mile Returns to Islamorada Dec. 8-9

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Winter distance runners in the Florida Keys can welcome warmer climes and the return of Islamorada’s annual Half Marathon, 10k and Beach N’ Beer Mile to its originally scheduled timeframe Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8-9.

The subtropical road race is open to bucket list runners or newbies of all ages and skill levels.

An optional preweekend event Thursday, Dec. 6, features a sunset paddle meet-and-greet with drinks and appetizers. Friday, racers can enjoy a 5-8 p.m. welcome party where weekend race packets will be available for pick up. Each event is hosted by the Florida Keys Brewing Co., located in the Morada Way Arts & Cultural District.

Registration is open for the half-marathon and 10k events from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. At noon the fun-while-you-run Beach N’ Beer Mile kicks off from the iconic Robbie’s Marina, mile marker 77.5 bayside, in two waves of participants.

Runners must consume four beers over a 1-mile course in Islamorada. Organizers said the fastest time that chugging joggers need to beat is seven minutes.

The main half-marathon and 10k events Sunday also begin at Robbie’s Marina. From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. runners follow a north, south and north-again course though Islamorada’s most scenic areas, along some roadways flanked by the Atlantic Ocean.

Cash prizes await the top three male and female half-marathon and 10k finishers.

Until Dec. 8, the online registration fee is $100 per person for the half-marathon, $65 per person for the 10k and $35 per person for the Beer Mile. On race day, half-marathon and 10k fees increase by $10 and $5 per person, respectively.
